This rhizomatic plant produces stems over 1 ft tall in spring which turns into whorls of beautiful thick leaves on top of which the flower opens. When the seed pod is mature in winter it splits open revealing bright red seeds. Unusual and ornamental. Cold hardy.

Excellent for woodland planting in temperate climates. Shade to partial shade. Makes equally good pot plants. Grow in well drained mixture of garden soil rich in humus and added grit sand.should not be allowed to dry out during the summer months. Keep moist during winter.
